The Heart of Bach Flower Remedies

‘Disease is solely and purely corrective; it is neither vindictive nor cruel, but it is the means adopted by our own souls to point out to us our faults, to prevent our making greater errors, to hinder us from doing more harm, and to bring us back to the path of Truth and Light from which we should never have strayed.’

Dr Edward Bach made this statement more than 80 years ago.  The holistic approach to health, disease and healing is based on the concept of the perfect Unity of all things and the utter Uniqueness of every system contained within it.

Every symptom, be it of body, mind or spirit, gives us a particular message, and we need to perceive and acknowledge these messages, and make use of them in our lives. The Bach Flower Remedies system can be described as ‘healing by restoring harmony in awareness'.

Initially, Edward Bach was a highly successful bacteriologist and Homeopathic physician.  It was in 1930 that Dr Bach, then aged 43, gave up his Harley Street practice to devote the last 6 years of his life to the search of the much simpler, more natural method of treatment.

'Heal Thyself' is at the very heart of Edward Bach's philosophy.  It is we ourselves, that permit and enable healing.  It was Dr Bach's vision that his Flower Remedies would not only be used by professionals in the treatment of psychosomatic disorders and complementary practitioners, but also in every family and by people who are consciously working on their mental and spiritual growth and development.

There are 38 remedies in the system.  Dr Bach discovered that flowers in nature have the ability to affect our emotions positively.  The energies from different flowers can remove our emotional pains and suffering which over time harm our health and impair healing.  The remedies remove negative emotions by flooding them with positive energies.

Negative emotions that can be helped: Sadness Stress/ Anxiety / Fear Panic attacks Jet Lag Stuttering Unable to fall asleep Emotional eating Anger / Hate / Resentment The effects of Trauma Inattention / Lack of focus / Daydreaming

How to use: Remedies are usually taken as 4 drops of the medicine in a small amount of water, sipped slowly and at least 4 times a day.  They are safe to be used by everyone including children, pregnant women, teenagers, from the frail and elderly to the energetic sports person.  Can also be great for pets!

A qualified practitioner will take a case history and can make up a remedy specifically for your individual needs.

Rescue Remedy or 5 Flower Remedy: Dr Bach chose 5 of the flower remedies as a combination to be used in any kind of emergency, or in circumstances when we need immediate help, before or after moments of difficulty or any kind of upset.

My story: I used these remedies on my 3 children from babies to the young men they are now.  It helped calm and settle colic, settled nerves on first day at school, doing the first sleepover, staying away from home on school trips, nerves before exams, and now if worry stops them from sleeping.  I have used them when traumatic situations have arisen in my life when I can't make decisions, when I feel I am juggling so many balls they are all going to drop, when I don’t know where my life is going and changes are needed, when a million and one things are running around my head in the middle of the night.

Emotional wellbeing and physical wellbeing are interlinked and have to both be addressed.

Bach remedies have a very subtle way of working alongside other treatments ie: Massage, Bowen Therapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Physiotherapy, Acupuncture to name a few.
