The Heart of Osteopathy

Conditions Treated With Osteopathy

I treat a variety of conditions in people ranging from dancers to gardeners to builders from grandchildren to grandparents seeking not only pain relief but also preventative Osteopathic treatment. I personally treat other osteopaths and also have regular osteopathic check-ups myself. I find this helps keep me fit for both my work and free time.

What to Expect with Your Osteopathic
Consultation and Treatment

Neck pain and back pains are usually caused by an injury to the ligaments or joints and this can cause further pain to the nerve and muscle. Patients often refer to this as feeling like a trapped nerve.

Back ache and pain may be caused by a recent event such as sport, gardening or DIY or may be an accumulative injury that you thought would go but hasn’t.

At the initial consultation you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire and registration form. Following this a thorough initial physical assessment to identify the source of your injury and symptoms will be carried out. You will be asked questions about your health, medical history, hobbies, work and lifestyle in order that the safest form of treatment can be selected.

The findings will then be discussed with you and advice with regard to work, sport and activity will also be discussed so you will know what to expect and do after treatment.

Treatment for your back pain will normally begin at the first consultation and may involve:

  • Joint Manipulation

  • Joint Articulation and Mobilisation

  • Soft Tissue Mobilisation

  • Soft Tissue Massage

  • Ergonomic Analysis and Advice

Treatment is different for every patient but will involve various massage techniques, joint articulation to relieve tension and stretching of muscles to assist with stiff and painful joints. We will also discuss exercises that you can do to improve your posture and movement in the home and workplace should they be required.
